Understanding Expected Performance Percentile

The Expected Performance Percentile represents where the expected performance for the group of students falls relative to the overall distribution for this assessment. In a percentile ranking, 50 indicates that the selected growth measure is higher than 50% of all growth measures in the distribution for the specific subject and grade or course. Each distribution is specific to the level of analysis (district/school), year and the subject/grade or course.

Use the Expected Performance Percentile to:

  • Observe shifts in entering achievement for different groups of students over the years,
  • Identify patterns of effectiveness with students at differing levels of entering achievement
  • Support vertical conversations with feeder schools or teachers of prerequisite courses
